Yes, it’s the end of July already. The summer sure is going by quickly. Only about 5 weeks left until school is in session again. Make the rest of the summer a memorable one. Do the things you keep saying you wanted to do since school ended. Go pick up a new hobby, interest or passion. Try something completely new. Don’t let your summer slip by and have “I-wish-I-could-have-done-this” moments haunting you once school starts.

In the meantime, as July winds down and August approaches, we’ve been hard at work getting our fall launch ready for all of you. Here’s a sneak peak of some highlights for our fall launch:

Although a few events are designed primarily for freshmen, all are certainly welcome and definitely encouraged to attend. Enjoy!

2. Lunar New Year 2012

Mark your calendars! LNY2012: The Year of the Dragon is going to be a big one! It’s our 20th anniversary show, so you can expect nothing but the very best. The date for LNY2012 is set for Saturday, February 18, 2012. Audition information will be ready soon from your VP-Cultural, Stephen Zhu.

3. ECAASU Dates & Interest Meeting

Duke will be the host of the largest and oldest ethnic interest student conference in the country, the East Coast Asian American Student Union Conference or ECAASU, the weekend of February 24-26, 2012. 4. HOUSECS79.7: Intro to Asian American Studies (Mondays, 6:00-7:30 PM)

Jeremy Lin. Far East Movement. Margaret Cho. What has the term “Asian-American” come to mean today? The purpose of this course will be to deepen our understanding of Asian American history and issues, as well as the effects of self-identifying and being perceived as an Asian American. The course will focus on topics such as Asian-American political engagement, portrayal in the media, body image, history of immigration/exclusion, sexuality, and life at Duke. Through engaging discussions, presentations, debates, movies/media, guest lecturers, and trips, we will be able to study the unique development of this minority group in the context of multicultural communities as a whole. 2) New Facebook Page

We got a notification from facebook informing us that our facebook group is about to be deleted/archived. To stay up to date on Duke ASA news, please “like” us on our new page at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Asian-Students-Association-Duke-University/151538381586746. It’s pretty much the same thing as a group (you’ll still get info on all of our events, pictures, etc.), but it’s now under a page instead of a group.

3) Myrtle Beach Retreat Video

Check out some awesome highlights from our Myrtle Beach Retreat courtesy of our resident film guru, Stephen Zhu (who also happens to be our LNY 2012 director!) This will be played for our incoming freshmen as a promo for our fall freshmen beach retreat at our first General Body Meeting!
