Duke University’s Asian Students Association (ASA) is the largest cultural organization on campus in terms of membership and funding structure. ASA has consistently organized cultural and identity-based programming, including LNY, our largest cultural show of the year (attended by 1000+ people annually), and TAASCON, an inaugural AAPI conference in the spring. In addition to successful cultural and political programming, Duke’s ASA hosts an annual freshmen mentorship program, leadership retreats, collaborations with our Multicultural Center and Asian-interest Greek organizations for weekly dialogues, and frequent social outings. Duke’s ASA hosted ECAASU in 1995 and in 2002, and is excited to be hosting ECAASU once again in 2012.
Duke’s ASA seeks to support and serve as a lobbying voice for the political, cultural and social interests of students of Asian Pacific heritage at Duke, to transcend social borders and foster relations with other groups on campus through community interaction, to raise awareness and provide an open space to learn about historical and contemporary issues facing people of Asian Pacific heritage, and to strive to make Duke a campus where Asian Pacific students are not discriminated against or marginalized because of their racial, ethnic or national identities.
